WHERE’S MY HOVER-BOARD?

middle_box_bttf2Today is the 21st October 2015, the day that Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox) and Doc Brown (Christopher Lloyd) arrived in “The future” in the 1989 sequel, Back To The Future Part II. And my main question is, where is my hover board?

back-to-future-hoverboard-xl So much of the films quirky predictions have kind of come to pass, except for the really cool stuff like Hover boards, flying cars or Jaws 19, though it was implied to be hollow-graphic 3D theatre so it was sort-of on the right track. But we have lighting in pavements, huge flat panel TV hanging on the walls like pictures, and we watch more than one channel at a time, whilst the Black and Decker food hydrator is still to come, the concept of a change in our fast food tastes and cooking has been realised. And let’s not forget the drones flying about all over the place or the early idea of Google glass!

All in all, I am disappointed that 2015 doesn’t feel like Back To The Future Part II told me that it would but in many ways, it struck the right chord. The world of today compared to that of 1985 (1989 when the film was actually made) is just as outlandish as this work of fiction. It was just a fun, quirky interpretation of the future and it still resonates today, just 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968) still holds true with what is and what can be.

Both get the date wrong but our ambitions right.

I’m just glad to be sitting here on the 21st October 2015 talking about this.
