JOURNEY TO THE CENTER OF THE EARTH 3D

3D – 7/10

2D – 5/10

When this film was first released I simply wasn’t interested. Clearly a 3D vehicle, I felt that we had seen enough of Brendan Fraser’s cheery family action hero for at least this lifetime and 3D might make for a good fun gimmick but little else.

I am forced to admit whilst everything I’ve just said is true, this film actually works. Yes, the plot is contrived to create as many 3D sequences as possible and most of them cross the lines of plausibility too much but in the end, this was one hell of a fun 3D adventure.

Frazer is light-hearted and fun to watch as he, along with the ‘Mountain guide’ and his nephew make their way through the supposed centre of the earth. The Dinosaur finale was the weakest part for me, but overall, in 3D that is, this was well worth a watch.

In 2D however, it would just rate as a run of the mill family actioner…

The 3D method used on the DVD and Blu Ray was Trioscopics MAGENTA/GREEN and whilst there is always some colour loss, this was worth it to me, as the film was far from being “Avatar”, and since I felt that the 3D added so much to what would otherwise have been a second rate family film, that it may well have been in black and white!

This was the best home Anaglyph 3D experience to date and highly recommended…
